Welcome to my June newsletter, I can’t believe it is already three months since my last one. Les Mielles Ladies have been busy at home and away with matches, opens and invitation days and I hope you are all enjoying your golf as much as I am in this glorious weather. Les Mielles Ladies Open What a great day we had, the weather could not have been better. We had over 80 ladies playing from Jersey, Guernsey and one lady from England. We had some great scores coming in and Les Mielles ladies did really well. The Griffiths Memorial Trophy, best gross was won by Alex Mollin with gross 73 on count back. Dympna Varian had a marvelous round with gross 77 (net 64) and has now reduced her handicap to 10.6 – congratulations, Dympna. Best overall bronze was won by Irene Journeaux with a fantastic score of 40 points reducing her handicap by 4. It was great to welcome back old members and also to see our new members all supporting the biggest day in the Les Mielles Ladies golfing calendar. Jersey Ladies Golf Championships The competition was held at La Moye this year with really good entry numbers and many of our ladies entered in all three divisions and those who were not playing were ball-spotting (thank you ladies). There is a great atmosphere during the week, meeting up with all the island players and watching, especially in div 1, very good golf. Well done to all the ladies who qualified and especially to Irene Griffiths who got through to the quarter final in div 3. Hopefully next year it will be at Les Mielles and you never know one of you might win. Team Matches Since March we have played 3 matches. On 31st March we played St. Clements at home and won the Challenge Trophy (Silver) 4 -1 and the Quail Salver (Bronze) was won 5 – 0. Les Mielles played Les Ormes away on 15th April for the Suzanne Trower Trophy and won 7 -3, some of the matches were not finished due to lightning. The Alderney match was played on 29th April in Alderney and we had 9 ladies playing. The format was Stableford with six scores to count and we lost by 9 points. Well done to all the members of the team, especially those playing for the first time, and thanks to Patricia our Team manager, for all her hard work. Just three matches left – Royal Jersey beginning of next month, La Grande Mare on 4th August and Royal Guernsey in October, all at home. EQR Seniors League The ladies playing in the Seniors League (55 and above) are pacing themselves nicely under the super leadership of Irene Journeaux. The format was changed slightly again this year with all three scores to count. The next round is at Royal Jersey on 22nd June - so good luck ladies. Seniors Invitation Day The date for this popular nine hole outing is Friday, 10th July. The list is up on the notice board so if you are 50 or over and have a friend you would like to invite to the club please put your name up on the list or let Irene Journeaux know. Active / Inactive Handicap From 1st January 2009 EWGA introduced Active / Inactive Handicaps. This means that all members with CONGU handicaps have to return at least three qualifying scores each year to ensure they have an active handicap. It follows therefore that three qualifying scores will be required in 2009 to avoid handicaps becoming inactive at the start of 2010. Supplementary scores will be accepted. Those members not meeting the minimum number of scores will be identified with an I (inactive) which will appear on the certificate and handicap lists. Qualifying scores of less than three will not be carried forward to the next year. The ‘I’ will be removed from the player’s handicap as soon as three qualifying scores have been returned. Membership Welcome to our new member, Sandra Peters and I hope she will enjoy her golf with us. New Kit I hope you all like our new kit; I think that the color looks good on everyone. If you have not got one but are keen to purchase, please contact Sue Langdon. The total cost for a jumper, polo shirt and cap or visor is £50. Les Mielles Summer Presentation – Tuesday 7th July 2009 Enclosed in the invitation to our Summer Presentation – this an important night in our calendar when the prizes are presented to those members who have won competitions during the first six months of this year. Please make every effort to be there – especially if you are a prize winner – it is a good night, a chance to catch up with all the gossip and have a few drinks with friends. Wishing you all a great summer of golf and remember if your ball happens to land in either bunker on the 6th hole 50p fine goes into my LC Charity tin – ‘Jersey Asthma Society’.
