Well, I can’t believe that 3 months have gone since I took over, it’s been quiet couple of months but I’ve used them to read over the files and learn what it is that I have to do. First of all I would like to thank everyone who played in the Lady Captain’s Drive-In. Driving in to the car park that morning and seeing the Icelandic flag up the flagpole made it really special and I had a fantastic day – we also raised around £85 for my charity. The weather is getting better after a cold winter and hopefully we’ll have lots of sunny days this summer. Membership We are sorry to say goodbye to Jan Muddyman, Anne Moon who has joined a club in UK and to Juanita Adlington who has gone up to La Moye. Juanita has been an active member since she joined and also been a committee member right from when she started. We wish them all the best. Sarah Burns has taken a year off to travel but will be back next year. A warm welcome to two new members, Mary de Cartered and Rachel Matthews and I hope they will enjoy their golf with us. Open Allocation Attached is the allocation form, together with explanation sheet. Please complete and return as soon as possible to the Assistant Secretary, Irene Griffiths. The return date is Tuesday 7th April. Just remember that you will not receive a form if you have not played in four qualifying competition over the last 12 months, but just return your forms and Irene will monitor your eligibility. Knockouts The draw for the knockouts competitions has been done and will be on the notice board for a week and will then go on the notice board upstairs by the changing room and hopefully also on our website. The knockouts start at 24th March and the final should be played by 2nd November. Organize your matches soon because the time goes too quickly and before you know it’s the last day of the round. Jersey Ladies Golf Championship The application forms are now on the notice board. It’s to be held at La Moye Golf Club from Monday 11th to Friday 15th May 2009. I encourage all of you to enter. There are three divisions: Div 1 12 and under, Div 2 13 – 20 and Div 3 21 – 36. As usual Les Mielles will be ball spotting so please, if you have time, enter your name on the sheet when it’s up on the notice board. Future Competitions Please check the notice board and your diaries but dates to remember are: Tuesday 21st April Ping Fourball Competition – UK Qualifier Thursday 23rd April Bader Cup – Mixed Greensomes (Stableford) – UK Qualifier Saturday 9th May Jack A’Court Members Day Thursday 18th June Les Mielles Ladies Open Note that Queen Mother Cup, which was scheduled on June 9th, has been suspended due to poor numbers entering. We have decided to have an individual stableford on that day and attach a fundraising competition for EWGA Trust.
Competition Results
Match Results The first match of the year against La Moye was on their course on 11th March. When we arrived there was a thick fog and play was suspended for an hour. Finally we got out in fourball to speed up play, we tried our best but La Moye won both silver and bronze matches. Thanks to all the team players. Annual Club Competitions As from 1st February 2009 LGU Medals will cease to exist. They will be replaced by EWGA Medal Strokeplay Competitions for which there will be NO alternate days. Therefore the 12 EWGA Medals (6 on Tuesday and 6 on Saturday) are stand alone competitions and any Lady Member can play on either or both days. However please remember that the Saturday slots are limited and priority is to be given to the Saturday ladies. The Committee has decided that for the four club trophy competitions (Jack A’Court, Club Champion, Silver and Bronze) the scores to count will be from your nominated playing day. All other strokeplay competitions run as normal. Winter Stableford Competition This competition has been extended to Tuesday 21st April and the cards need to be sent to Sheelagh Le Quesne by the 30th April.
Website We are in the process of updating our The Les Mielles Ladies Website and the link is www.lesmielles.net/ladies . Please add this in your favourites as there will hopefully be a lot of information on there. There are some information on there at the moment, mainly result and fixtures list, but I want to put more on, for example; the knockout draw, if it’s a drawn competition the start sheet would go on the website, entry forms for club competitions and more.
Now it’s just to wish you all the best and enjoy your golf, remember the bunkers on the 6th hole for my charity, Jersey Asthma Society.
